Combien d’argent faut-il pour commencer en Bourse ?

كم من المال يلزم للبدء في البورصة؟

How much money do you need to start investing?

First things first: emergency savings

Before investing a single dirham in the stock market, set aside emergency savings: enough to cover 3 to 6 months of expenses in case of the unexpected (job loss, health, repairs). This money stays available and risk-free. The stock market comes after, with what exceeds that cushion. Golden rule: only invest money you will not need for several years.

First-basket simulator — 1 share of each

How much does a mini “discovery” basket cost with one share of four representative Moroccan market stocks? Here are recent prices on Casabourse (June 2026 closes):

Stock Sector 1 share (MAD) Volume/day (~) Role in a beginner basket
Maroc Telecom (IAM) Telecom ~91 MAD 44,070 Yield stock, highly liquid, largest market cap (~80 bn MAD).
Addoha Real estate ~32 MAD 400,370 “Accessible” stock, heavily traded, cyclical sector.
BCP Bank ~241 MAD 8,130 2nd largest Moroccan bank (~49 bn MAD cap), dividend ~4.4 %.
Attijariwafa Bank (ATW) Bank ~680 MAD 48,104 Largest bank market cap (~146 bn MAD), exchange benchmark.
Total (1 share each) ~1,044 MAD 4-stock “discovery” basket, 4 sectors.

The real cost: brokerage fees

Share amount is not the only line item. Each order through a brokerage firm (SGB) incurs brokerage fees:

  • Brokerage commission: generally 0.50 % to 1.00 % of order amount (excl. VAT), with a minimum per order (often 17 to 30 MAD depending on broker).
  • Settlement-delivery commission: fixed per operation (~17 MAD incl. VAT at several SGBs).
  • BVC fees: registration duty ~0.10 % excl. VAT on transaction amount.
  • VAT: 10 % on brokerage commissions.
Scenario Order amount Estimated fees (~) Fees as % of order Reading
1 Addoha share ~32 MAD ~35–45 MAD > 100 % Unviable: fixed fees exceed the purchase.
1 IAM share ~91 MAD ~35–45 MAD ~40 % Very penalising for a single low-priced stock.
4-stock basket (4 orders) ~1,044 MAD ~140–180 MAD ~15 % Heavy fees if each share is bought separately.
1 IAM order × 10 shares ~914 MAD ~40–50 MAD ~5 % Already more reasonable: one grouped order.
1 ATW order × 2 shares ~1,360 MAD ~45–55 MAD ~4 % Practical minimum to limit fee impact.

Estimates based on BVC-approved SGB fee schedules (min. commission + settlement-delivery + BVC duties + VAT). Check the Casabourse broker comparator for exact rates.

What minimum amount in practice?

There is no legal minimum to buy a share on the Casablanca Stock Exchange, but there is a practical minimum imposed by fees:

  • Below 500 MAD per order: fixed fees eat a huge share of the amount — avoid.
  • Between 500 and 2,000 MAD per order: acceptable for learning, but aim for grouped orders (several shares of the same stock).
  • From 2,000–5,000 MAD per order: fees drop below 5 % — comfortable zone for a beginner.
  • Realistic first diversified basket: budget 5,000 to 10,000 MAD for 2 to 4 stocks, limiting the number of orders.

Start gradually

You do not have to invest everything at once. Regular contributions (e.g. 1,000 MAD per month over 6 months) smooth your purchase price and reduce the risk of investing everything just before a drop. It is also more comfortable psychologically: you learn as you go, order by order.

BVC practical case

On Casabourse, open the pages for IAM, Addoha, BCP and ATW. Note today’s price. Calculate: how much would 1 share of each cost? And 10 IAM shares alone (~914 MAD)? Compare with your SGB fee simulator. Then open the comparator: compare the 4 stocks on “price” and “volume” to choose which stock to start with on a 5,000 MAD budget — one liquid stock, one grouped order, fees under 5 %.

Key takeaways

  • Build emergency savings first (3–6 months of expenses).
  • 1 share each (IAM + Addoha + BCP + ATW) ≈ 1,044 MAD — but fees multiply the real cost.
  • Fixed fees (min. ~17–30 MAD/order) penalise very small purchases: aim for 500–2,000 MAD minimum per order.
  • A realistic first diversified basket: 5,000–10,000 MAD, limiting the number of orders.
  • Investing gradually smooths purchase price and helps you learn without stress.
